Bloody hell man, think this weeks ones might be too hard for me

They are tough but...

With all maps it's familiarity, routing, best use of towers and patience when spending resources.  You guys have time.  The deadline is over a week away.

If a map is proving difficult try it on a mode that gives you a bunch of resources at the start.  That's an easy way to figure out the way you want to play it, then the challenge is figuring out how to get to that ultimate goal with limited resources.

Without getting into spoilers, I'll say this:  Follow the general guidelines from the Openings video - a strong opening without wasted resources is the key to golding any map. 

I'll also echo Oatmeal here, for the open maps especially, take advantage of fixed resource modes to figure out your pathing. 

Last Stand and Forge may look brain-bendingly difficult, but you have plenty of resources to get the job done on wave one.

In Poison Core mode, you'll be lucky to bring in a green gun's worth of interest over the course of the map.  Prioritize killing everything in command range, even if it means building significantly more than you would in a full cores mode.

Grinder is all about staying ahead of the increasing alien health pools.  Don't hesitate to backspace if you realize you haven't upgraded enough for a sudden jump in creep HP.

I'll try it again later then That Last Stand (think it's that one) the map is just so big I was like arggghhhhh, I also really hate flying enemies and there seemed to be loads of em on these maps! I'm glad we have more time for these ones

with four of the five maps the same basic theory works.  Route the enemies so they pass the same towers a couple of times.  And if you can build that kill zone in a spot where the flyers can get shot but gun towers and/or cannons then awesome.  On some maps you may need to create multiple kill zones because there are a lot of enemies.

You should be able to make a long path that the enemies travel past most of the towers on the way to the cores and the way back.  Forge and Focal point being the exception.  On those maps just make as long a path to the cores as you can while still having some distance between the cores and the exit.

On Last Stand because if its size you have to build in stages.  I don't believe my routing is as effective as miendiem's but use every platform and they pass the center platform twice on the way to the cores and twice on the way back.

Don't forget that you guys are going up against each other.  If you are having troubles so is everyone else.  Just getting a map done, even if you lose cores, will probably net you a lot of points for the week.

Here's an example of how you can route the enemies past a spot more than once to create a killzone.



Note where I have the concussion tower, it hammers enemies throughout the inner loop.  I also have Telsas attacking enemies with shields sooner than I have have infernos and lasers.  Infernos where the enemies are walking away from you in a straight line.  The cannon is placed so damage is only done within radius of a command tower.  I also need a missile tower for the flying enemies and make sure to only upgraded enough so that the kills occur between it and the command tower, usually by the guns and cannon on the ground.

I thought this route was pretty good but miendiem's high score is 20,000 higher than mine, probably because of juggling.

Actually, juggling effectively on that map is a bit of a challenge.  You have to expend a lot of additional resources in order to set up a working juggling path, because the whole map is buildable.  My score, at least for story mode, is done with 22 towers.  That's possibly 18 plus a couple of juggles on the final boss wave, but hardly the juggle-fest that it could be.  Sal, for instance, completed the map with 138k, and 127 towers built.

Speaking of juggling, my plan at the moment is to actually do two videos for the same map (Last Stand), juggle versus non-juggle.  It's the one big scoring mechanism I haven't covered for you guys yet, and one of the most boring, honestly.  Still, if it's points that matter, it's a tough tactic to beat.
